O'Donnell eventually became friends with the game's developers - Rand and Robyn Miller - and after some time was asked to handle sound design for their next game, Riven: The Sequel to Myst. While having already been something of a video game enthusiast, it wasn't until he heard the soundtrack to Myst in 1993 that he truly realized the potential of video game music. He didn't get his start composing music for games until the late 90s, but his interest in the medium goes back a bit further.
